I grew up in Newburgh, New York and played drums and guitar in several underground bands in the 1990s. I am one of the founding members of All Out War. My novels, The Postcard and The Mansion focus on my hometown in the Hudson Valley.

I wrote and directed the short film, No Deposit No Return (1997), which has screened at a number of film festivals.

I’m also a scholar of television, film, and digital media, and the author or Cinema of Confinement (Northwestern University Press) and Capturing Digital Media (Bloomsbury Academic). I’ve published a variety of articles on film and television in journals published by Taylor & Francis. You can also find many of my musings on film, TV, music, and theory on Madness Productions.
